Full disclosure: I’ve done political work for Fairchild, Turner-Sloss, Wortham, Duncan in the past. I’ve done private work for Wick.
This year, Mayor Mims is going to be facing competition in his re-election efforts, and even though he already has his two guaranteed votes from yes-men Commissioners Matt Joseph and Chris Shaw, he’s looking to get rid of at least Shenise Turner Sloss or Darryl Fairchild by running School Board member Karen Wick.
Turner-Sloss and Fairchild think they can’t do anything because they only have 2 votes- to which I say horsefeathers, because as a minority- you put things on the agenda- and record your opposition voting it down so that you can call them on it at election time.
The Board of Elections used to have a list of people who’ve pulled petitions that was easy to find- now it’s buried on this page https://www.montgomery.boe.ohio.gov/ – and here is the link to the pulled petitions. and also used to provide Dayton petitions- but don’t do either on their “new site” which was built by “The Wilderness Agency” as part of the John Theobald criminal activity that went un-punished.
CITY COMMISSION
Wick’s willing to put her own money (She owns Coco’s Bistro) up to fund her run, and undoubtedly will get establishment support. She ran on the slate with Dem Party Chair Mohamed Al-Hamdani way back in 2017 for her first term on the School Board. She finished third behind Reverend William Harris and upstart Jocelyn Rhynard. Al-Hamdani just barely edged out their fourth slate buddy, Paul Bradley who has had cushy government jobs his whole life- first working for Sherrod Brown and then working for Karl Keith in the auditors office and now as Executive Director at Montgomery County Land Bank.
Nick Brusky 6 Brighton St. is supposedly running as well for City Commission. A republican who recently worked in the Board of Elections office in a patronage job, has some prior political experience. He last served as a Harrison Butler TWP trustee Jan 2014 – Jan 2017 before leaving for a Fed job at the USDA as a reward for working on the 2016 Trump campaign. He also served as an at large Councilmen for the City of Amherst from Jan 2002 – Jan 2009.
Brusky drops out Jan 13, 2025 https://www.facebook.com/nbrusky/videos/611886764663078
Michael White 237 E. First St. (I can’t tell you more) has pulled petitions. Works at CareSource as a “Enterprise QI Advisor II” More coming.
Archibald Magee, used to be called Arch Grieve, and used to teach at the Dayton STEM school, where he claims that David Lawrence, during his one year stint there, permanently traumatized him. He’s also served on the Xenia School Board. Why he changed his name is a good first question.
There are multiple websites for him:
- The Dayton Conflict Coach (Arch) on Facebook
- This one which defies description: Gem City Dudeist Priest where he talks about his bipolar disorder book, offers drum lessons, t-shirts, podcasts and more, more, more! The Dudeist Priest thing is explained “a reference to the fact that I am a follower of Dudeism (a “religion” based on the movie The Big Lebowski”)”
Word on the street is that he now has a contract with Dayton Public Schools- and had sent an apology letter to Dr. Lawrence a few months back. I can’t find it- and they aren’t quick at getting back to me (because I ask for too many public records requ
I can also tell you that crazy Valerie Duncan has been collecting signatures for Commission as well. She has a Facebook page here. Obviously, Fairchild and Turner-Sloss are circulating as well.
It’s too early to predict who else will get on the ballot- remember the City of Dayton Petitions are a hot mess- the BOE has already told them that they need to change their charter for the dates to count, and the BOE routinely rejects anywhere from 20% to over 50% of the signatures collected on this form. The City petitions require a “nominating committee” that has zero power (the William Pace petition rejection) and requires notarized signatures and candidate signatures- and 10x the signatures of running for Congress as a D or R (500 vs 50).
Many people say they are going to run, turn in petitions and get kicked out. Just never a party candidate.
For Mayor
Jeff Mims is going to have some primary competition.
Supposedly Jordan Wortham is going to make another run – this time for Mayor, and a UD Law school student, Curtis Stratton and Archibald Magee have also taken out petitions.
Wortham hasn’t updated his website yet- and still says he’s running for County Commission.
Stratton has a website and was going to announce today on the Courthouse steps at 5pm- but has postponed till Friday. His “platform” seems pretty lackluster, but you can read for yourself on his site.
The real question is why Fairchild and Sloss haven’t been able to find and support a challenger to Mims in the last 4 years, and why they haven’t been able to find someone to at least beat Shaw.
School Board
Dayton School board will be interesting- but those petitions aren’t due until August. There you need 300 valid signatures- but you can use competent state forms- and can circulate multiple candidates on one petition.
This year the following seats are up: Wick, Joe Lacey, Jocelyn Rhynard and Chrisondra Goodwine. At this point, the only vacant seat is Wick- and she could run again if she gets knocked out of the Commission primary (unlikely). None of these people have a good record- having hired Libby Lolli- and given her raises, despite her wave of destruction on the district.
This is the most dysfunctional government body in Montgomery County- and voters could change the balance of power by electing four new candidates to take office in Jan of 2026.
Although Lacey has mellowed, for the sanity of everyone, this is your chance to vote the most disruptive and questionably criminal (hoodiegate among other things) off the board- Chrisondra Goodwine.
I’m guessing Dr. Ken Hayes will try for his third time to run. I have heard some others contemplating it, if you are thinking of running you should reach out to me.
If you want to run for Dayton City Commission or Mayor, you can get your petition forms from me, or by calling the clerk of commission. You have until 4pm on Mar 7, 2025 to turn in your forms for Mayor or City Commision at the Board of Elections office in the basement of the County Building.

Straight Republican Ticket unless they are anti – Trump RINOs !
Got to fix this mess… the People have spoken !
Happy J6 Certification Day !
If someone is ineffective in their current or previously held elected position why would anyone support them for another?
@Tim Hart–if you are not willing to educate yourself about individual candidates, instead voting a straight party ticket–you’re being sheepish and promoting corruption. Tho’ considering your comment carefully, maybe you think that’s a good thing.
Great information. I’m marking this one “unread” so I can use all the links later. Thanks, David.
I did my homework No Democrats and No RINO’s.
Fall in LINE or you are OUT of Office !
We have the power people now is the time to use it !
Democrats are a dying breed corrupt and in bed with drug cartels ! Dems won’t be around when we’re done exposing them ! LMFAO ! Run now !
Retribution is Coming !
Y’all don’t know it yet, but there were over 8000 cell phones that were at BLM rallies that were also at January 6. The Trump rally was infiltrated by BLM and antifa in the world’s about to find out.
Source Tim Hart?
@Tim Hart. You’re the type of guy who elected the twice-convicted Larry Householder. So don’t talk about how the Dems are the only ones who are corrupt. As a point of fact, Householder’s nuclear-plant swindle was costing you a lot more than the corrupt local Democrats ever did.
@Tim Hart knows why he went to DC on Jan 6, 2021 – to “represent” Trump in the insurrection and Capitol break-in.

No BLM, but MAGA Trumpers as far as the eye can see. Tim’s here (9.22).

Tim was indicted and he plead guilty. Have that restitution paid off yet?

Poor Tim Hart. He hopes Daddy Trump will pardon his sorry little self for Jan 6. We’ll see if Trump delivers for followers like Tim or leaves them in the wake of destruction that follows traitorous Benedict DonOLD wherever he goes.
Piecrust promises – easily made, easily broken.
Here’s some sourcing for David’s readers:

Tim was indicted, admitted his guilt, was sentenced for his crimes, and ordered to pay damages to the American people. Now, Tim hopes indicted and convicted felon US President-Elect Donald Trump will pardon his sorry self for participating in Trump’s January 6, 2021 insurrection.
The one thing Donald Trump is really good at, besides lying, grifting, sexual assault, dishonesty, and corrupt illegalities, is piecrust promises – easily made, easily broken.
We’ll see if Trump delivers for followers like Tim or leaves them in the wake of destruction that follows traitorous Benedict DonOLD wherever he goes.
David, as much as I want to Make Dayton Great Again, I have too much going on in my family and with my business to run for City Commissioner in 2025. Thanks for the backhanded compliments anyway.
By the way, I was a Butler Township Trustee, not Harrison.
Nick, I’m not sure you’re qualified to be on the Dayton Commission. You’ve had trouble being qualified for other jobs before. It seems you are a trucker who did some legislative and local government work in the past.

Your time in the first Trump Administration as an ersatz “Confidential Assistant, Farm and Foreign Agriculture Services” under Georgia Republican AG Sec Sonny Perdue was apparently short-lived and rightfully so.

Even though former veterinarian Perdue was qualified to do his job and stayed all four years with Trump, he was still a political hack who grifted and violated laws such as the Hatch Act. We should go back and see if it was Perdue brand fried chicken being served in the USDA cafe you liked so well.
Political patronage jobs, such as the one you have/had at the Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE), serve a specific purpose. Those jobs are frequently a lily pad for landing elected officials and/or campaign workers hopping between ill timed political party work. All parties do it and you can find evidence of them every day of week. Of course, taxpayers pay their salaries and benefits while they sit it out looking for the next political pond to jump into.
Of course, any well-informed citizen who respects fiduciary oversight, good governance, and nonpartisan care for their constituents, would be a good elected official. It will be interesting to see what your new business venture entails.
I note you and David have a few things in common: politics, blogs, and dogs named George. I hope David finds a new four-legged love soon to keep him company. <3
