Rhythm In Shoes this weekend at UD!

Looking for an amazing, one-of-a-kind, foot-stomping, good-time on the old-town tonight thing to do?

Go to a Rhythm in Shoes show, tonight and tomorrow at UD!

Dayton is blessed with two unique professional dance companies- the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) who blew me away last weekend with their Colorography show- and Rhythm in Shoes- which can be described as vaudeville meets tap-dance meets performance art  meets comedy show.

If you’ve never been- you’re missing one of the great arts experiences in Dayton

I saw the Friday night show.

This went well beyond just tab dancing.

The first half, Banjo Dance, was s mix of tao, folkdance, and modern dance, working with that live band they had..a.nd the band was as much a part of the peformance as the dancing.

Second half was more trad tap and theatrical dance, but I really liked the way they worked students from the UD dance program into the pieces. This is a good way of bring apprenctice artists into the world of professional performance.

I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like Rythem in Shoes. This seems to me a really innovative group in they are working in idioms one doesnt see taken seriously that much, and the way they are working live music into their peformance as part of the peformance, not simply music to dance to.

Who would think Dayton is such a good town for the dance? But then, go to the CItyfolk Festival in the summer, to the dance tent. Or to the Regggae Festival in Dave Hall Plaza. You will see how people here like to dance!
