Whaley’s candidates withdraw from Dayton School Board race

Late yesterday, Jerry Brunswick and John Lumpkin both withdrew from the Dayton School board race.

This is the day before the the Montgomery County Dems are to meet to endorse.

This brings the race to the 3 incumbents, Rev. Robert Walker, Nancy Nearny and Sheila Taylor, vs. one challenger, John McManus.

Word on the street was that Brunswick and Lumpkin were Mayor Nan Whaley’s hand-picked candidates and that Matt Joseph helped them get their signatures.

Once again, “democracy” is thwarted by the Monarchy of Montgomery County.

This just went from an interesting race to not much of one.

Any word as to why both chosen withdrew?

Doesn’t matter who runs because this will be the last year for this (non) elected-appointed-yet-woefully ineffective board….All hail the conquering Ohio Dept. of Education coming soon to the district…..

Dayton Daily news trolls this site- writes about it 2 days later: http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/news/news/two-withdraw-from-dayton-school-board-race/nnSn5/
Claims Lumpkin’s job with Morgan Stanley prevented him from serving- so he pulled out, and Brunswick didn’t want to run alone.
The Dems met to endorse on Monday- and didn’t endorse in the school board race- coincidence?
Morgan Stanley has a clear statement about “Holding an elected or appointed political or
governmental position” – but- they also have a system where you can request approval- o

However a little digging seems to show that it’s OK for a Morgan Stanley VP to sit on a charter school board in SC:

Mr. William McMaster – William G. McMaster has a Master’s in Business Administration, which he received from The University of South Carolina in 1976. He currently holds many security licenses which he acquires in both South Carolina and from the Public Securities Institute at the University of Michigan in 1986. He is currently Vice President of Morgan Stanley in Columbia and is looking forward to serving on the Imagine Columbia Leadership Academy Board of Directors.

    So- which is it?
    Dems? or Morgan Stanley?
