There were still 4 jailers who were on paid leave awaiting the grand jury. Franklin County handled it.
And, somehow, Christian Black died all by himself. In a restraint chair.
On April 30, 2025, the Montgomery County Jail placed ten people on administrative leave:
Sgts. Craig Eaton and Joe Solomon, and Corrections Officers Drake, Hartman, Wheatley, C. Jones, Bittinger, Holley, Marercak, and Patel.
They let 6 back on duty.
Wheatley, Bittinger, Holley, Marercak were the scapegoats at grand jury.
Who apparently, didn’t do a thing. I guess we paid $7M for nothing.

It seems to me there IS a county employee at fault and in violation of jail guidelines – a now fired corrections officer who was on probation – a new hire? He would have had training, experience (hopefully), and supervision. I guess that’s what the Montgomery County taxpayers paid SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS to the decedent’s family to compensate for the negligent actions of the new hire which appears to have caused the eventual death.
Despite the county coroner recommending a homicide charge, the grand jury did not indict. What was recommended by the prosecutor?
Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck (a Republican) issued the following statement today. Part of the statement is listed. Media sourcing is linked [bold & underline emphasis is mine]:
“I have been asked to comment on the results of the Grand Jury findings regarding the death of Christian Black […] Yesterday, I probationary released a corrections officer who held Mr. Black down in the emergency restraint chair. Although I believe that the officer had no intention of harming Mr. Black and that he was only trying to keep Mr. Black from causing injury to himself, the duration for which Mr. Black remained bent over was not consistent with the guidelines we follow to avoid positional asphyxia. […] At this time, three of the employees that were involved in the incident remain on paid administrative leave until Hamilton County has had a chance to begin their investigation. If Hamilton County’s investigation finds any policy violations, we will move forward with corrective action […]”

BREAKING: DOJ charges Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) with stealing $5 million in FEMA funds, laundering the proceeds, and then using the money to support her 2021 Congressional campaign. She faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted.
According to the indictment, DOJ says:
“Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021. In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds.
The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to steal that $5 million and routed it through multiple accounts to disguise its source. Prosecutors allege that a substantial portion of the misappropriated funds was used as candidate contributions to Cherfilus-McCormick’s 2021 congressional campaign and for the personal benefit of the defendants.
The indictment further alleges that Cherfilus-McCormick and Nadege Leblanc, 46, of Miramar, arranged additional contributions using straw donors, funneling other monies from the FEMA-funded Covid-19 contract to friends and relatives who then donated to the campaign as if using their own money.
The indictment also charges Cherfilus-McCormick and her 2021 tax preparer David K. Spencer, 41, of Davie, with conspiring to file a false federal tax return. According to the indictment, they falsely claimed political spending and other personal expenses as business deductions and inflated charitable contributions in order to reduce her tax obligations.”
Yeah, Tim, I saw that Florida indictment of a US House Rep. We’ll see how it shakes out. It could be the prosecutors don’t have their evidence or charges lined up like the Trump/Bondi sponsored prosecution by insurance lawyer Lindsay Halligan against former FBI Director James Comey. Christian Black, and others held in the Montgomery County jail, did not deserve to die. They had not been found to be guilty and were presumed innocent while being detained.
As you sit down to tuck into your overflowing dinner plate, pray for those Trump, Noem, Hegseth, Bondi, Bove, and others in the Trump’s administration, sent to be killed in foreign prisons, or ordered to be killed outright in international waters, all without due process or lawful orders (83+ dead and counting). Ask yourselves why innocent American citizens are being scooped up where they live, work, learn, pray, jog, shop, decorate, drive, fly, attend hearings, receive medical care, or while on every sort of US street – all to be locked away in ICE jails. Some of these long time residents have died from the trauma of rough handling or detainment. They are also innocent and have not received their due process rights under the US Constitution.
