Why we do the Dayton Grassroots Daily Show

It’s funny- people are starting to recognize us around town. Generally, we’ve been getting encouragement. This is an experiment in public journalism, community building and issue awareness. After a prominent university president saw Greg at lunch today- and introduced himself- and says he watches, we thought we’d talk about why we keep doing this- even if our view count on Youtube is low- so here it is:

We appreciate all of our viewers- and those who’ve stuck with me on this site/social experiment.

We’re averaging 975 unique visitors per day- and around 15K unique per month. If you like what we’re doing- tell your friends.

If there is a topic you’d like discussed- suggest it. If you’d like to be a guest- let us know.

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing David. I think youtube is a great avenue for the two of you to share your ideas. I know that you are misunderstood 90% of the time. This way you can speak your mind, get your point across, and the person listening has time to think about what you said. Keep up the good ideas!

Dad

Why do you call yourselves the tin men? I thought tin men sell aluminum siding.

Greg Hunter

Wizard of Oz: As for you, my galvanized friend, you want a heart. You don’t know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.
Tin Woodsman: But I still want one.

Tin Woodsman: What have you learned, Dorothy?
Dorothy: Well, I – I think that it – it wasn’t enough to just want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em – and it’s that – if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with! Is that right?

It has been claimed that I have no heart like the Tin Man and I agree, just like the Tin Man

Roger

It is time for you guys to upgrade a bit and improve your sound.  That echoing-through-the-room sound is one reason I don’t watch the videos very often.

I’m not sure who said you two don’t have hearts, the fact that you take the time that you do and that you seem to speak with a passion for what you are trying to get across are signs that you MUST have something going on inside, somewhere.  Not sure about Greg’s favorite 4 words “I told you so”, but that is another issue not dealing with the heart but with my least favorite 3 letter word EGO….  Keep up the good work!!

This is the only way to try to get…some truth out to the public.
The DDN won`t print it..!

I love these videos. Y’all are human and caring, which honestly (and you are aware), doesn’t always translate across your written words, but is obvious from the video.

I can read faster than I can watch, so I skip more videos than I used to read your posts, but for impact, the video is stronger.

I do feel less inclined to comment on a video. You two are having a conversation with each other. It’s strange to comment about an overheard conversation. The conversation has passed, why comment on it now? You may not understand that, it’s an after-the-fact feeling. Written posts tend to be more of the moment? Maybe it’s me. At any rate, keep fighting the good fight.

I’m not sure that the DDN is the best option Dayton has for getting information out to the public.  DDN has a daily circulation of about 100,000 (a bit better on Sundays). The Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of about 836,000.  That means that even if the DDN does print something, at least 88% of the population won’t see it.
