Yesterday, the Sheriff allowed 6 of the 10 personnel involved in what the Coroner and the Dayton Police Department classified as a homicide of Christian Black while in a restraint chair in the Montgomery County jail to come back to work.
In a story that broke on Esrati.com [1] on May 1- I named 9, and on May 6 I clarified naming the officers involved: [2]
“On April 30, 2025, the Montgomery County Jail placed ten people on administrative leave:
Sgts. Craig Eaton and Joe Solomon, and Corrections Officers Drake, Hartman, Wheatley, C. Jones, Bittinger, Holley, Marercak, and Patel.”
I also released a chilling video of the murder.
The four corrections officers who are still on paid leave are Wheatley, Bittinger, Holley, Marercak.
Despite what you see as a team effort, with two sergeants watching over, only these four are still subjects for prosecution.
If this was a paid gig, I’d isolate each one in the video and clarify who is who- but, unfortunately, right now, I’m swamped.
The Montgomery County Jail Coalition is still asking for civilian oversight and getting told no.
The Sheriff won’t admit that his training was woefully inadequate and that he should be held accountable for this death.
The case is being prosecuted by the Warren County Prosecutor and I’ve not had time to look up if cases have been filed yet.
Just remember, if you read it here, you read it first.
Thanks for the update, David.
