The tales of woe started last weekend when yet another inmate died in custody. This one’s being attributed to a heart condition. That brings the total deaths this year to 6, or one per month.
Another inmate was beaten for around 20 minutes by two other inmates, who decided to finish off their handiwork with a golden shower for the victim (yes, they pissed on him). The victim is in critical condition, and the inmates, well, they’re still inmates. We’re waiting for the video and incident reports. The county is waiting for the lawsuit so they can pay another 6 figure settlement.
Sooner or later, the citizens will realize that the jail’s epic mismanagement is costing more in settlements than it costs to have a jail at all, and we’ll either finally change management, or start sending inmates to a privately run jail that’s sure to emerge just like charter schools have.
Lastly, a corrections officer deputy decided to have sexual relations on the clock with an inmate who was described as handicapped. He’s on unpaid leave. Both, thought the event was news worthy apparently, because they both videoed their performance. No, we probably won’t subject you to the video of this. We have the officers name, and it won’t be long before the county is paying out another large settlement for malfeasance and dereliction of duty.
In the mean time, to all my readers, stay out of jail in Montgomery County, and if you do get arrested, please post bail. The jail isn’t safe for anyone.

By “our Representative”, I’m assuming you mean Mike Turner. Well, the answer to your question is pretty simple. The incestuous inbreeding of the Montgomery County Republicans (and the Democrats too!) is so tight that Turner doesn’t want the Feds investigating any facility that his Republican buddies are responsible for. The former sheriff (Phil Plummer) also had horrible things happen at the jail under his watch. He’s also the head of the County Republican Party, so he controls the party purse strings (decides whose campaigns to donate to, etc.), has a huge influence on who gets the party backing during elections, etc. The current sheriff was Plummer’s #1 person in the department and the current sheriff is also very active in the County party. Turner would be no where without the party’s early support of him back when he first ran for Mayor of Dayton and then ran for Congress. The County Party was also instrumental in him keeping his seat during redistricting back in 2000 or 2010 when this area lost a seat and it was between him and Steve Austria who would remain in Congress. Turner isn’t going to turn on those who got him where he’s at now. It’s his buddies that are running the show around here.
Also, now that the Republicans hold the House again, Turner is now in more powerful positions on various Congressional committees (notice how he’s been showing up since January on the Sunday news shows?) so he doesn’t want anything negative associated with him. No rocking the boat from him, even on a local level.
How many more deaths will it take until the Feds have no choice but to come in and look at this?? It would be fun to have Turner chime in on this. I’m sure he reads this blog.

@David Esrati – I was wondering if the deputy that the news was talking about was the same deputy that you wrote about. Figured it was. Good job getting the scoop on them… AGAIN!!
