Tipp City School Board- 2 different stories

Tipp City School Board Member Anne Zakkour gives a Nazi salute and Seig Heil to the board president who resigns

This is a follow on to the last post, where I talked about “Journalism 101 on investigating candidates and politicians [1]” and how the news isn’t necessarily what it used to be.

Two stories out of last nights Tipp City School Board meeting:

The Dayton Daily news: “Tipp City school board president Patry resigns abruptly [2]

update: after this blog post was published, they changed their story and headline to “Tipp City board member gives Nazi salute during meeting” same URL. Losers.

Dayton 24/7 Now has this “Tipp City school board member gives Nazi salute to board president during meeting [3]

The Dayton Daily had this: “Simon Patry, president of the Tipp City Exempted Village Schools Board of Education, told fellow board members Tuesday evening he was resigning from the board as of midnight (11:59 p.m. Tuesday).
In a statement provided later Tuesday night, Patry said he resigned because of family and business obligations. The announcement came near the end of the board’s monthly work session.”

Zero mention of the Sieg Heil from Zakkour. He’s a class act. She’s in desperate need of an education.

But, what happens in Tipp City, is just a microcosm of what happens in America today where it seems we’ve lost track of civility, integrity, respect, and decency.

The fact that neither Zakkour or Patry were running for re-election is nice, but the crazy part of Ohio law is that once elected to a School Board, there’s almost ZERO chance of getting removed from that position (readers of this blog may remember when I showed that Dr. Adil Bagirov had moved out of the district [7]– and that no one would lift a finger to remove him).

Zakkour should be removed from office. There’s zero room for Nazi salutes in the board room. Imagine if she’s said the “N” word if she was on the Dayton Board? They technically couldn’t remove her either. Ohio has a problem, but this is just the Tipp of the so-called iceberg.
There are 88 counties in Ohio and 608 school boards. There are also Educational Service Centers. There’s a State School Board. There’s way too many uneducated, folks, hiring educational leaders and getting horrible results. One only has to look at how the State could recognize Dr. Libby Lolli [8]as “Superintendent of the Year” while she failed miserably to run our district.

Where you choose to get your news, credible information about who to vote for, to understand what’s happening in your community matters. And, in this case, Channel 45- a FOX news affiliate, seems to be the one where you get “the rest of the story.”

And Esrati.com to point out the errors of omission by the local newspaper of record. Be glad there’s at least one journalist trying to keep you informed in Dayton.

Quite often, the only people interested in being on a school board are the last people that should be on a school board.

Good reporting, David.

Wild question, but do you know what an ESC does? Do you know who resides in an ESC? Considering you think one teacher can effectively deliver online curriculum to 400 student, my bar for you is pretty darn low. Kinda telling when you’ll run for literally everything except school board, lol

Two years ago, a group of local Tipp City residents petitioned signatures to have Anne Zakkour and fellow board member Teresa Dunaway put before a judge to have them removed from the board. Judge Wolf waited the thing out until the group pulled their case so it wouldn’t interfere with the coming election this year. Zakkour and Dunaway, along with a former board member who didn’t run for a second term, ran 70-80 percent of the school administrators out of the district in only two years, along with dozens of teachers, coaches and other staff. Zakkour and Dunaway cost the district untold millions when they fought school building plans before joining the board (a new school project failed by just a few hundred votes in the late 2010s), and the district is trying to build the same buildings at four times the cost thanks to inflation and other contributing factors. The school hired a crisis consulting firm to deal with Zakkour and Dunaway when they were part of the board majority because they flew in the face of protocol and the law so often. The money they[‘ve cost the district in legal fees and their crisis consulting firm is in the hundreds of thousands. They’ve cost the district millions outside the board and inside it. Under their direction, the board tried using a technicality to seize control of the local library board in one of the most brazen control grabs I’ve ever seen. The superintendent was non-renewed and essentially fired during a school board meeting last year after it was revealed he did not properly follow Mandatory Reporter protocols when a student threatened two classmates and told an administrator and the police he was going to carry out a school shooting. Two other administrators resigned at the end of the year. This was once a district that was regularly in the top 5-8 public schools in the greater Dayton area. I’m not sure it’s in the top five in Miami County since Zakkour and Dunaway have been a part of the board. Zakkour can continue to embarrass the district. She… Read more »

From one condescending prick to another, thanks.

And you’re getting warm on what ESC’s do. Maybe you could go bother them with your bratty nonsense. I know, I know, you won’t go unless you can be within sniffing distance of David Lawrence’s butt. Simp.

“But, what happens in Tipp City, is just a microcosm of what happens in America today where it seems we’ve lost track of civility, integrity, respect, and decency.”

You mean like how you insult anyone you don’t agree with (like the response below) and publish smears that you can’t back up?

Typical mindless liberal hypocrite.

“‘…Flippant, casual references to Hitler, the Nazi regime, or the Holocaust grossly diminish the tragedy that still affects so many,’ a statement from [Cathy] Gardner said.” But aren’t some Israelis referring to Palestinians as Nazis? Do Israelis need to be educated over the past plight of their own people?
Apologies, my mind is on international matters today. The Nazi salute debacle is sad. Is anyone thinking about the education of our children over petty squabbles in the modern day?
