So much for just the “liberal media”- Colin Powell endorses Obama

If you only watch one YouTube video endorsement of a candidate this season, this is the one to watch. In a measured, reasoned and well thought out series of answers, Colin Powell puts the smackdown on the direction of John McCain and the Republican party.

He flat out says that Sarah Palin isn’t fit to be president, and brushes aside any question of Obama’s ability to lead the country at war.

His dismissal of the Bill Ayers “controversy” and his questioning of why people even care if Barack Obama is a Muslim as opposed to is he, or isn’t he, shows why Powell is considered a master statesman.

Powell also says he doesn’t think that this country could stand two more Republican appointments to the Supreme Court.

For all that want to claim that Obama is the darling of the “liberal media” – this endorsement should be a clear indication that Obama is more than just a slick speaker, but a man of substance, or as Powell put it- a transformational leader.

Three words: “Check…and…mate”

Hanky Panky

What’s so funny is that while he dismisses Sarah Palin’s qualifications for the Presidency, he implies that both Barack (ACORN) Obama and Joe (I Kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon) Biden are qualified. WOW! Barack Obama, who’s only career accomplishment during his time in public service is gaining his party’s nomination for President? Joe Biden, who’s made so many gaffes, mistakes, horrible decisions, etc., etc., good lord etc., that the mere mention of his name welcomes snickers? This is going to be our executive branch?

As a sidenote, I find it funny to see the people who used to attack and criticize Powell now believe he’s the greatest thing in the world. I think it’s easy to see why Powell picked Obama. Number 1, Powell was looking at the polls. Number 2, Powell was looking at the skin color. His reasons for endorsing Obama is about as convincing as accepting Paris Hilton into MENSA.

I love it! David thanks for making this video available, it’s a perfect follow up to Mike Robinette’s blog and the comment he overheard at dinner. My mind is made up, I’m voting for Colin Powell!

Dad

“as convincing as accepting Paris Hilton into MENSA.”

Beautiful phrase!

Hanky Panky thanks for putting a name by your wise insights. Bob Woodward’s books are the main reason that the people who use to attack Powell have newfound respect for him. Mr. Powell might have been the only sane voice going into Iraq. Before the “surge” there was a military plan that called for the exact opposite plan that Mr. Rumsfield and the Bush administration used in Iraq….shock and awe = failure. Powell was the voice of reason. He said you break you bought, we are continuing to pay off Iraq at 10 billion a month.

No previous experience can give you experience being the president of the United States, except maybe the vice presidency. Being in the military may actually hinder a candidates ability to be Commander in Chief. Just like being a former CEO may hinder ones ability to make decisions on regulating the financial community…dig?

A republican general in the US Army – serving in 3 wars The 16th National Security Adviser under Ronald Reagan The 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs under George H.W. Bush and Clinton The 65th Secretary of State under George W. Bush And this man is making his decisions based on 1) polls and 2) race. Brilliant conclusion. Brilliance one would expect from someone that says ” Barack Obama, who’s only career accomplishment during his time in public service is gaining his party’s nomination for President?” As a side note – next time you leave one of your right wing, racist seminars… you may want to try google before spouting off at the mouth about things you know nothing about. -Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws. -He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers -negotiated welfare reform -promoted increased subsidies for childcare -In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan’s payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures. -In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate’s Health and Human Services Committee -He sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations. -During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms -Obama sponsored legislation requiring nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks -In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act, marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor In January 2007, Obama and Senator Feingold introduced a corporate jet provision to the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007 -He introduced Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices… Read more »

“As a side note – next time you leave one of your right wing, racist seminars… you may want to try google before spouting off at the mouth about things you know nothing about.”

So you are saying the right wing, Republicans, are racists? Tell that to Republican Abe Lincoln. Or perhaps you want your Democrat Buddy George Wallace leading your seminars. I think you just “spouted off” yourself and this proves that you are ignorant. So grow up and understand your attacks and insults make you a hypocrite, but then again Democrats loves to be hypocrites, so I am sure you are fine with it. Have you ever noticed how racist Black Democrats can be yet no one ever brings that subject up. TeresaLea – you have proven yourself to be JV.

TeresaLea

I did NOT say that republicans are racist – it wasn’t even implied.

Anyone who thinks a man of Colin Powell’s stature and background would choose to endorse a presidential candidate because he is black, AND flat out says that Senator Obama has done NOTHING during his public service except win his parties nomination, however, is racist – in my opinion.

I did not attack or insult, I turned his/her own words back at them and threw in a little bit of truth for the twist.

If that is JV, Gene, then I don’t want be on the Varsity team.

Hanky Panky

I was reading a book this week from the late 1990s that cited examples of when liberals/democrats disagree with conservatives/republicans, they find it fulfilling to play the “racist” card. I thought possibly that day has passed. Boy, was I wrong. That is an effective tactic though. I remember when Obama was launching his first attacks on Bush and McCain, claiming that they’ll (I’m paraphrasing now) use racism in the campaign against Obama. The race card is a very good card to play. Who wants to be labeled racist?

I really enjoyed the list of Obama’s “accomplishments” too. Heck, you should be a chief spokesperson for Obama. Able to sugarcoat that woefully unimpressive resume? Wondrous.

J.R. Locke

Isn’t playing the race card like playing the “liberal media” card?

Hanky Panky

Heck, it could be. I’m not sure. I never played the liberal media card. I was just calling em as I saw em.

Gene

The RACE card, and calling someone Racist, is much more negative than the liberal media card. It is not even close.

TL says “in her opinion” she think HP is racist bc BO is not experienced enough. Where in the world does this end. It is hardly enough reason to call someone a racist. And Mr. Esrati has shown that some people can call others names (ie TL) but other people get scolded when calling people names (me.) So I think, in my opinion, TL is racist bc she thinks any white boy who does not like BO is a bad person.

TL – “right wing, racist seminars” is not hard to connect the dots to republicans. I think Liberals, Democrats are MORE racist than Republicans. There, I said it and believe it, and it is MY OPINION. TL is JV. so is DE for not scolding her for the RACIST comment. HP is not racist. You may be however.

So here’s teh McCain campaign in a nutshell from another blog:

“It’s not so much that McCain’s campaign has been purposefully sleazy as they’ve been meanderingly, pointlessly sleazy. It’s the “fuck it, whatever” guide to Republican politics, with no particular focus except putting anything out there to win a daily news cycle. Obama was a conspirator in voter fraud for a weekend, a terrorist for about three days, until he was a socialist because some plumber in Ohio said so.

Before that he was a celebrity and presumptuous, a race-baiter, a shady community organizer, sexist, inexperienced, a baby killer, a sex predator and a dozen other things. You wonder why McCain/Palin supporters feel like they can go to rallies and talk about Obama being a Jew-bought Islamic radical cokehead forced abortionist communist? Because it’s the standard that the campaign’s set by having ridiculously drawn out public conversations designed to draw full attention to the charges while laboring under the pretense that they’re “debating” over using the smear.”

J.R. Locke

GOP ratfucking….I love that term from “All the Presidents Men”

Racism doesn’t matter. I don’t see where and how being called a racists hurts a person one bit. Show me the damage? Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond had long careers using race as there fulcrum (although they both “saw the light later on in life). Radio show hosts make a living and substantial amount of money despite being called racist (Savage and Imus). Even on the local level I have yet to see repercussions for racist attitudes….and lord I have seen and heard some pretty crazy stuff.

I have yet to meet someone who wasn’t a racist in the truest sense. Recognition or validation of this unscientific, purely aesthetical category instantly makes you a racist in my book.

TeresaLea

“TL says “in her opinion” she think HP is racist bc BO is not experienced enough”

I <3 creative editing. I guess my use of the big “AND” didn’t catch the readers eye, as was its intention.

As I’ve said in the comments on this blog before, Gene, I can’t stand white people.
