Payback, Parachute or Patronage? Husted rehired by Dayton chamber

Still under scrutiny for violating election laws by voting from and representing a vacant house [1], the vacant suit makes a triumphant return to the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.

State Sen. Jon Husted has been hired by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce to oversee its workforce development efforts, the organization said Friday, Jan. 30.

Husted, R-Kettering, will serve as director of workforce education and employer services for the chamber’s Education and Public Improvement Foundation while also continuing as a state senator.

Phil Parker, the chamber’s president, said Husted will join the organization on Feb. 1. Husted was one four people interviewed for the job, which attracted more than 60 applicants, Parker said….

The move marks a return to the chamber for Husted. Until 2005, he worked part-time for the organization as executive director of its foundation, leaving that job when he became house speaker. Between 1997 and 2000, he was the chamber’s vice president of economic development…

Husted said many of Ohio’s legislators hold other jobs outside elected office, and he sees no conflict between his role as a legislator and his work with the chamber.

“I’m advocating for macro issues that are good for the community in my role in the chamber, not anything specific to a business or anything like that,” he said.

As a state senator, Husted has a base salary of $60,583.70.

Parker and Husted declined to say how much the chamber job will pay.

via Husted to join Dayton chamber [2].

One can only wonder how out of 60 applicants, a man who said his Speaker of the House job took so much time that he had to live in Columbus- is now going to have time for a side job as a lobbyist (that’s what the Chamber does mostly- lobby).

Any time a job title reads as long as this “director of workforce education and employer services for the chamber’s Education and Public Improvement Foundation” you should realize this is a made up position. It’s been leaked to me that Parker was seriously ticked off at the Dayton School Board and Dr. Stanic for hiring a Cleveland PR firm no-bid [3]. Could this be a move to make their lives hell- since Husted is a cheerleader for charter schools?

Or is this just another case of Dayton’s chronic “good ole boy” network taking care of its own– just in case Jon gets a spanking and is sent home from the Senate. By hiring him now, it doesn’t look the same when he’s got his tail between his legs (where it belongs) for breaking the law.

The are financing his bid for higher office. I mean look how well the Dayton region has performed under the tenure of Mssr. Parker, Husted, Taft, Turner & Bush. You cannot make up how poorly these guys have done, but the terrible corporations finance them and the Corporate shill called the DDN sings the praises.

I am getting the feeling God is not on our side.

Jeff

They’re all going to retire to some gated community in Florida.

Isn’t that were the local power sructure eventually ends up?

PHIL

I am no fan of Hustod but it gets rather tiring reading the pot shots taken against politicians, mostly republicans on this site. It appears contributors to his blog have most of the answers to our local, state, and national problems. Then why don’t all or one of you campaign, get elected, and make the changes you champion.

Funny post. Husted has a history of believing that he doesn”t have to follow the rules.

He doesn’t have to live in his district. He doesn’t have to follow the campaign finance laws.

Remember this from The Plain Dealer:

Husted’s rise also had a dark side in the form of covert assistance from a little-known nonprofit group known as Citizens for Conservative Values. In 2004, the Dayton-area issue advocacy group began a secret push to help Husted became speaker, even going so far as to ink contracts handing out fat bonuses to consultants if he was named the House leader. After benefiting from the group’s work, Husted pushed a campaign-finance bill that forced more disclosure from issue advocacy groups.

Forgive me PHIL because I was a Republican until earlier this week when I finally “quit” the party. And I really like Phil Parker, but it does seem to me that this is an opportunity to bail Husted out of the residency issue. And those that know Husted know that his goal in life is to be a career politician – i.e. President of the United States.

What I find ironic is that Husted just slammed downtown before Christmas and now he’ll be working there again. I hope I’m wrong about all of this, because when I start thinking like David, it scares me! ;) (Sorry I missed the party tonight David).

I can’t run for office in Dayton, I live in Beavercreek – but I do everything I can to help where I can. Besides, I’ve no desire to run for political office – but David has put his money where his mouth is many times by running.

Phil – I ran as a Republican and voted in the last primary as one, but the data speaks.

I will say it again, Dayton is a microcosm of the world and the powerbrokers at Davos take no morr responsibility for their actions, than those in Dayton. It is not a Democracy, it is Fascism, pure and simple. Turner was backed by Raj Soin, who ran his business like the disgraced Indian Billionare and Husted was backed by the chamber. I was on Chamber commitees and even those groups brooked no alternative view and IMHO the correct view.

The housing bubble was evident to me as early as 2001, but the town was run and financed by sprawl mongers. Just look at Little Bombay that Raj built out by the repulsive Beaverditch golf course. I think Turner was President of the HBA! Go read the last 4 years of predictions by Philly in the Chamberwatch. I will put my predictions against his any day of the week!

That same gated community where Pete Forester resides, who financed Paula Macilwaine to power. Current Protege of Paula – Judy Dodge.

I can still remember calling Paula out on Pete in 1992, whom she defended.

Greg Hunter does not even live/work in this country anymore! Lets discuss local issues with locals!

really?

Hmmmm…funny how Greg Hunter greeted me on his bicycle near the South Park gazbeebo after a drexel show there last fall.

Greg Pierron

That WAS last fall.

Drexel Dave Sparks

Yet despite the sparse attendance, it was one of the greatest drexel performances to date, although there are many of various level of legend.

Greg Hunter

I loved the performance Dave and GP is correct; I am holed up in Bucharest, Romania for 3-4 months. Do not worry, I still maintain my contacts with all aspects of Dayton.

GP has a friend that has Party Boy videos of Johnny H., while he was short man on the UD campus! Frat boys running wall street and Cbus! Tyler Dearden says “How’s that workin’ out for ya?”

Greg Pierron

Johnny H?

TB

I think it’s interesting, and I’d like to see someone look into the specifics on this, but since the Chamber has registered lobbyists, Phil and Chris Kershner, how is this not a conflict of interest on all their parts? If I were on any lobbying firm that works in Columbus I’d be asking a few questions, the Chamber has direct access to an elected official, and writes his review.

Of course we all know that Johnny H won’t be in Dayton at all, so what is his job? Is he, himself a lobbyist for Chamber issues? If so, does this mean that elected officials should get paid twice to do a job they should be doing for the people anyway?

Greg Hunter

The time for investigation is over, the data is there: cue the guillotine. The shame is when the blade falls; they will still wonder “What did I do!?!”

Idiots! – said in your best French acccent.
