It’s the men in suits who’ve messed it all up.

When I started riding the scooter as my main form of transportation, I pretty much abandoned the suit for jeans and boots. When I saw “An inconvenient truth” I came to the conclusion that we need to figure out how to end our dependency on fossil fuel- and my walk to work tax credit idea was born [1].

This video from the EU, pretty much sums up my feelings:

There is also the question of what happens when the gap between the haves and the have nots gets too big. Typically, the sides collapse, and fall into the center. It’s not pretty- and we’re starting to see the result of years of unbridled greed. This video about Goldman Sachs and their kingdom of Burger flippers makes it pretty clear:

While neither item is the purview of a Dayton City Commissioner, I still believe that think globally, act locally is a pretty good mantra.

Both of these videos came to me through listening to you (thanks Tim and Teresa). I publish them to try to keep a dialog going, and to stimulate discussion on what we can do in Dayton to change the world.

That is Dayton’s heritage, and it should be our goal to keep it going.

What will you bring to the effort?

you assume a warmer earth is a worse earth.

and they could close all the BK’s, then you would have no jobs for these folks.

Also, I love the “single mom” thing………… maybe their parents and the schools should have had these young ladies sew their knees together. What is it with getting knocked up and not getting married? Where are these young men? Oh, that’s right, we have set up our culture to think it is mean to have people act in a responsible manner. We would not want to hurt the feeling of these PIG fathers and PIG mothers. If you know what a PIG is then you would agree that these people are all stealing from you, making the world a worse place to live, putting in danger children bc they have irresponsible parents, etc. But we don’t want to be mean to people.

PIGS breeding PIGS leads to more PIGS.

tg

I loved the amazing video from the UK about global warming. Gene – you are kidding yourself if you think a warmer earth isn’t a worse earth. Pick up Hot, Flat & Crowded by Thomas Friedman. Climate change is NOT a political issue, (although conservatives would have you believe it is because of Al Gore and An Inconvenient Truth), it is a SCIENTIFIC one. Just because Bush sanitized reports he didn’t like or didn’t allow them to be published at all doesn’t make it go away.

The middle class in India & China is growing exponentially and they all want to live the American way of life. And since we’ve set such an incredible example of innovation in alternative fuels and just conservation in general – we’re hardly in a place to tell them they need to conserve when we don’t. This is real, not imagined, and the sooner everyone realizes Rush & Hannity & George Will don’t know anything other than the Republican talking points, the sooner we can correct the problem.

Oh, and I was a single mom for a while, too. Not all are low income or irresponsible. Some of us get divorces. Some have husbands who have the audacity to die without providing for their family. Is everyone who needs a break evil and worthless? Is everything so black and white for you?

Gene

1.5 million kids in America every year……….. 1.5 million. Do I really need to go into deep poverty, crime, and education stats for you to get it?

Gene

BTW, Al Gore ‘s “movie” was not exactly scientific, and the truth was avoided and misinterpreted.

He played us for fools.

Warmer may be better, actually.

tg

And for the record, Gene, I never saw the movie. I’ve never been a huge fan of Gore. And even though I voted for Bush twice, I would say that HE is the one that played us for fools.

And you don’t need to go deep into stats for me to understand poverty and its effects on children, schools and communities. I’d rather you spend the time reaching out and mentoring one of those kids than sitting here in total condemnation and judgment of them and their parents.

Gene

Yes, Bush played us for fools and Bush is an ass.

Judgment may be the beginning of turning this problem around. Sorry, we have gotten too soft on people having kids who are a) kids themselves b) not financially ready c) not emotionally ready d) not truly committed to starting/having a family e) not having committed relationship f) all of the above.

You get mad I pass judgement. So be it. I get mad bc people treat their kids like animals, treat fellow citizens with little respect, think that working people should pay for them. Kids out of wedlock commit more crime, smoke more, are less healthy, less likely to graduate from high school, more likely to be unemployed and “take” government money and hand outs, more likely to go to jail, more likely to have STD, less likely to be a productive citizen, more likely to do drugs…………etc. And stats prove it is not by a little bit, rather a large BIT on all of the above. Maybe my judgement proves I care more than the average, apathetic, turn your head, NIMBY, See No Evil, Hear No Evil Liberals that think this is OK to do. Well, it hurts real people, cost real money, hurt real lives, kills real people………..

but who cares? we would not want to pass judgement on pigs.

I say let gay couples adopt these unwanted kids…………..

tg

Well, I was with you up until “See No Evil, Hear No Evil Liberals”

You are right, “it hurts real people, costs real money, hurts real lives, kills real people” – but please stop calling them “pigs” – they are people.

Don’t blame the kids for the poor choices of their parents. Don’t blame them if they never learn a different way, most of us are the products of our environments…some just happen to be born into better circumstances than others. We are dealing now with the unintended consequences of past government decisions – locking them away in housing projects and legislating fathers out of their lives in exchange for financial support.

The Dayton Early College Acadmey (DECA) needs volunteers after school – during lunch and after school. These are kids from troubled homes who are trying to find a way out of a bad situation. They need mentors and role models.

Sitting in judgment and calling names does nothing to turn the situation around – it only makes you sound…well, bitter and judgmental. In other words, stop cursing the darkness and just light a candle.

Get involved, make a difference – all it takes is a couple of hours a week.

Gene

I make a difference, I don’t follow the path of losers. I don’t have unwanted kids. I donate thousand of dollars, give away clothes and furniture, and pay a shit pile of taxes. I make a bigger difference than the losers having these kids. And to be honest, I blame US for not holding young men accountable. They F*CK and leave. These aren’t men.

Government has nothing to do with this……. it is a lack of values.

Poor people in the 40’s and 50’s used to get married and have kids, that is not the norm today. It has nothing to do with the government, unless you are talking about feminism. And, yes, Liberals are the more likely supporters of this BS behavior. Pig behavior by people then, is that better?

I like to pick on liberals because they don’t want to “judge” this behavior but are happy to judge almost everything else. Hypocrites.

What is your point? You support unwanted kids? You support this behavior?

God forbid that India should ever take to industrialism after the manner of the west… keeping the world in chains. If [our nation] took to similar economic exploitation, it would strip the world bare like locust. – Mahatma Gandhi Gene oh Gene who denies humanity, does not realize that God gave us effing, as cheap entertainment for all races and classes. Gene Oh Gene is crass and ass because God gave us understanding of our bodies and our biomass, but we lost our way due to moral asses. We used to understand how our bodies worked, and women could prevent from having too many jerks. Society forgot how to manage our lot and now we are stewing in one big pot. Gene Oh Gene wants to take away life’s little pleasures, because he defines men as those who should stay, Gene Oho Geno there has to be a better way! Come to the understanding that we are all mammals and provide guidance on mating like animals. For me I like it this way, but I got fixed and I am happy today. Population is the problem it is quite clear, but those in the know, they shut their ears. They pray to god that things will get better, because each life is precious and the next one matters. But once on the earth they say go away, only disdain for those who live this way. The key is education in spite of the rhetoric, but Gene oh Gene he does not care, because I’m heritic. Jesus was once thought of this way, and told the asses to get out of the way. He upset the suits and those with gavels, but died on the cross, because of those like Gene, nothing but rabel. It is not a crime to live in harmony with those around us, but never forgetting that nature will pound us. I find it funny in a perverse sort of way, to be blessed to see it turn out this way. The nashing of teeth that God so predicted, comes from those that lived or so they… Read more »

That was beautiful. I bet he tastes like chicken.

Poverty must be funny to Greg.

Assult must be funny to Greg.

Theft must be funny to Greg.

Unhealthy babies must be funny to Greg.

Living in filth must be funny to Greg.

Starving kids must be funny to Greg.

Disease must be funny to Greg.

Dropping out of High School must be funny to Greg.

Going to jail must be funny to Greg.

Burdening society with unwanted bills must be funny to Greg.

Watching people beat the hell out of each other because they behave little animals must be funny to Greg.

Sex abuse of kids must be funny to Greg.

Emotional abuse of kids must be funny to Greg.

Watching kids die must be funny to Greg.

Greg, these things multiply by 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 when people have kids they do not want, they can not afford, when they are not emotionally ready. You really must think it is funny to see kids suffer. You, my friend, don’t get it. Stay in Hungry, bc that is what “your people” do to unwanted kids, keep ’em hungry.

I have donated more time and money towards this subject, all to see super liberals defend the rights of irresponsible people who destroy innocent lives. You must think this is funny Greg

Ignore this real problem – that is what Greg does best. God forbid I want to save the life of a kid or two, God forbid I want kids to grow up happy and healthy. Keep up your fight to defend losers, I will keep up my fight to defend kids. Greg, you are a real man.

Dad

The two videos are all noise and no substance. Maybe it’s YouTube. I’ve seen the Burger King video before and could understand every spoken word. What did you do to make it so noisy?

Greg Hunter

Gene none of it is funny. We need to take care of our own, including having access to our own power and food production. The time for discussing drug wars, welfare queens is over, we need to get real and pick out the things important in life and that is food, shelter, healthcare, power and relationships.

Gene

True Greg. It is not funny. And I am tired of seeing kids being abused and not cared for properly. It makes me mad, mad as hell.

We require people to get licenses to Drive, Fish, Hunt, Fly, etc, but we have never given serious thought about a license to breed. Of course I am against this, but think about it. We protect blue gill more than kids.

I believe that our society ( the good ole’ USA) would be better off if we could correct, or realistically reduce the number of unwanted kids, kids having kids, and people having kids who are not ready to be a parent. Correct this, reduce this and we have less crime, less poverty, less unemployment issues, less hunger, less health risks, better education, better students, more productive citizens. Is this asking too much?

Burger King tastes good though, although I try to avoid fast food.

David Lauri

Gene’s a crazy crank but he does have a point about licensing and about our society’s inability to deal with procreation responsibly. The right to procreate is so inalienable that to even talk about requiring licenses for parents is seen as sacrilege. And so we have state senators in Utah and televangelists in Virginia spouting off that homosexuality is the gravest threat to our nation while heterosexuals who’ve already been proven incapable of taking care of the kids they’ve already created go ahead and create more kids (first example: my nephew’s biological mother who had three of her kids taken away because of abuse and neglect and since has popped out a couple more kids; second example: Nadya Suleman who had six kids and then has octuplets and can’t afford to pay for even one kid [and think how what it cost for the birth of her octuplets could have helped existing people in need!]).

I realize that ideas as radical as requiring licenses to become parents or requiring the sterilization of parents convicted of child abuse or neglect won’t happen.

I also think that people who go on about the sanctity of life from the moment of conception are hypocrites. If life is so sacred from the moment of conception, these people should damned well be acting to make sure that every sacred life ends up with a family that wants it AND can afford to take care of it. Accomplish that goal first and then there’d be no need to ban abortion because there’d be no one wanting abortions.

ShortWest Rick

Ha! For a minute I thought I was reading DNI. Back to the subject of the two videos David presented… BK first… BKs are franchises, independantly owned outlets, low wages and unfair labor practices although maybe system wide cannot be paper trailed upstream to BK corporate or Goldman Sachs, so the obvious answer is down stream that BK corporate is pinching their franchisees so hard that they can’t afford to pay their employees… maybe not, we’d need to hear from a BK outlet owner to verify that.
On global warming, I’ve long believed the rise in the earth’s temperature is due to extracting the lubricant out of the ground, like running a motor low on oil and greenhouse gasses are a sympton rather than a cause. Last person I told that to called me an idiot to my face… but that didn’t change my mind.

Greg Hunter

“Slim Shady, I’m sick of him
Look at him, walkin around grabbin his you-know-what
Flippin the you-know-who,” “Yeah, but he’s so cute though!”
Yeah, I probably got a couple of screws up in my head loose
But no worse, than what’s goin on in your parents’ bedrooms
Sometimes, I wanna get on TV and just let loose, but can’t
but it’s cool for Tom Green to hump a dead moose
“My bum is on your lips, my bum is on your lips”
And if I’m lucky, you might just give it a little kiss
And that’s the message that we deliver to little kids
And expect them not to know what a woman’s clitoris is
Of course they gonna know what intercourse is
By the time they hit fourth grade
They got the Discovery Channel don’t they?

What about the make-up you allow your 12-year-old daughter to wear?

The above lyrics are by Eminem and it is one of the reasons most mothers hate him and I love him. He tells the truth. He uses some raw language, but it was language I was exposed too and in spite of those who might judge differently I came out OK. However, I do feel like I was too sheltered on the sex stuff and I feel it the case even more so now. The just say no is un realistic and the schools should teach the process early even if parents do not. It is my tax dollars and it is in MY PUBLIC INTEREST that your children know the score. Send them to private school if you do not like it.

No I do not have children, but I have counciled young women and their mothers about when, where, what and why. While I catch some grief from the older female persuasion, no pregnancies on my watch. It is also a very similar discussion to drug use. Parents, like the government and religion, wants to use the “easy way” and that is fear tactics instead of education.

Gene

“I also think that people who go on about the sanctity of life from the moment of conception are hypocrites. Who are you talking about? From my experience, those who oppose abortion are the first to help needy families. I support the right, but I still think it is wrong, just like I support the right to put a bullet in your head. It is a persons right, just not a real good decision.

You want to accomplish goals? Have responsible parents, hold them accountable, and 3/4 of our nations problems are reduced significantly.
