It’s the county fair every day but Sunday at Tony’s

If you’ve been to a fair around here, or the Folk Festival, you know Tony’s Italian Sausage. Frying up on a hot griddle with lots of green peppers, onions and, how can I say it any other way, grease. In fact, Grease is the word at Tony’s. It’s why I love it- it’s why I hate it.

Imagine a place where you can get all your fair food favorites: those giant hand battered onion rings, funnel cake, deep fried oreos and twinkies, Philly Cheesesteak, Giant Texas Tenderloin, footlongs and Chili Cheese Dogs….. you get the picture, and not have to pay admission, get the kids past the shooting gallery and the other carnival barkers.

For the last few Fridays the office here has been making a run up to Tony’s at 2920 Wayne Ave- right at the Wayne/Watervliet split on the corner of Arbor and Wayne in the old AnnaMaries pizza shop. They don’t have a website- but the phone number is 937.258.8550

They are still working on the store hours- but last I tried to go in the evening at 7:15 I was 15 minutes past closing- so call first at night.

The food is just like at the fair- the prices seem a little more reasonable than what you would pay at the fair (probably because the rent to be at those festivals is pretty high) and the food is just as greasy. They should seek a sponsorship from one of the cardiac hospitals in the area- but, that’s why we love them.

It’s a Dayton Localvore experience waiting for you to try- so go give it a shot.

You can tell Tony, Esrati sent you.

Again the contact info:

Tony’s 2920 Wayne Ave Dayton OH 45420 [1]

Tony’s food should come with a free membership to Cardinal Fitness, and a complimentary defibrillator.

But DAMN – it is delicious. :)

Gene

The food is good.

DE – you complain about smoking in regards to health care costs – but what is your stance on food? Unhealthy food leads to huge health care cost, at least smokers a) pay tax on their item b) albeit they run up costs, these costs are off set with early death so they are not being paid their social security (plus all those years of taxes) c) they often free up jobs with early death. These are just a few things, but I was curious why you support one killer and not another.

Gene

No, not that, I know that……. In terms of health care costs. I thought along with the second hand issue you were against smoking bc of rising health care costs, and eating bad food contributes to this as well…… Now do you know what I am asking?

Gene

So you are not anti-smoking in terms of health care costs?

Gene

but unhealthy food related health issues costs 5 times what smoking costs – heart disease, diabetes, etc… should FAT people pay 100% as related to being fat?

pizzabill

Gene,

You’re right. The government should tell everyone what they can and can’t eat, and how much, etc. because they know best and we’ll all wind up perfectly healthy because they know best.

Gene

You missed my point – My point is you are anti-smoking for several reasons, and I was wondering if you are anti-smoking bc is may raise the cost of health care. If you are against smoking bc it may raise the cost of health care then I want to know where you stand in terms of obesity which also contributes to raising the cost of health care……. also, obese people contribute to higher health costs than smokers. What was so hard to understand what I was asking? Do you not want to paint yourself into a corner. I know fat people don’t hurt me but they do hurt my wallet. That is the question – one that revolves around the cost of care as pertains to a persons personal habits.

I am all for doing whatever one wants. The government does not know best, thank you.

Did you understand now?

Greg Hunter

stupidity should be fatal.

But Gene is alive. Does not compute.

Gene, Why is something with no recorded fatalities illegal and booze, which eats up a great deal of peoples lives, insurance and whose costs are socialized, legal?

Gene, welcome to the world of a hypocrite.

Gene

I still can not get a straight answer. This is straight forward. I guess I want to know where is this all heading, that being government regulating personal things like smoking and eating and personal hygiene, etc. Fine, no smoking in public places, but that is not my question. HEALTH CARE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PERSONAL BEHAVIOR. I am all for personal choice and I am all for the legalization of most everything anymore.

“Greg, since you are so smart, why ‘ain’t’ you rich?” A classic line from one of my Uncles. Greg, thanks for calling me stupid. You are just plain mean.

Also, if you believe your stupidity quote, we would get to eliminate 85% of Dayton, the people you champion your causes for!

I just want to find out where it begins and ends with what we will and will not cover for health care. So many people are on this anti-smoking campaign, which is fine, but I hope they see their hypocrisy in not being anti-obese and anti-many other things that make health care more expensive. Heck, if people would just brush their teeth on a regular basis this would bring down dental care nearly 70%.

Gene

I did not make it about me – and I guess you cant take on real topics. Third place suits you.

Greg Hunter

I am all for personal choice and I am all for the legalization of most everything anymore.

Excellent Start.

You are just plain mean.

Absolutely, I have explained it many times and if you do not get it I get mean. Sorry that your feelings are hurt. I also hurt Marty’s feelings (according to phone calls) for the things I said, but the truth hurts more than lies.

Smoking, unlike eating, directly impacts the person in the room when the smoking occurs. This legislation was wrong in its application as it should have been based on OSHA standars instead of a blanket ban.

The Dems are just as dogmatically stupid as the Republicans. IMHO Mr. Esrati does not bend on his beliefs and uses flawed logic to maintain his position (see gun control for example). Of course, I am worked up as it is Derby season and our IDIOT Democrat Governor is using his power to enhance mindless gambling (see Keno) instead of ensuring the survival of the all encompassing sport – horse racing. Horse racing which promotes science, money management, green space and agriculture and our Education based Dumbocrat pulls the idiot lever. Typical. America deserves its Third World Status!

Gene

“smoking, unlike eating, directly impacts the person in the room when the smoking occurs” AGAIN – for the 10th time – NO SHIT. I KNOW THIS. I AGREE WITH THIS. LETS SEE IF YOU CAN FOLLOW THIS EXAMPLE…….. Bob smokes in his home for 40 years – ONLY IN HIS HOME, and he lives alone. He dies @ 60 years old bc of lung cancer. His medical costs (he has insurance) are $50K for his treatment. If he did not smoke, he would have lived and we would not have such high premiums. However, since it was cigarettes that killed him, and he paid a $1.00 tax per pack, he paid a total of $14,600 in taxes (1 pack per day for 40 years) HERE COMES EXAPLE 2 Barry eats bad food (greasy stuff!!!) in his home for 40 years – ONLY IN HIS HOME, and he lives alone. He dies @ 60 years old bc of heart disease. His medical costs (he has insurance) are $50K for his treatment. If he did not eat bad food he would have lived and we would not have such high premiums. However, since it was bad food that killed him, he paid ZERO in taxes for his food. In these examples each fellow is contributing to higher health care cost for all of us (or at least the people who pay for it). My question is why do we want to criticize the SMOKER for raising cost and not the EATER? Remember, if both of these guys would take care of themselves employers would have a better opportunity to provide more health care to more people, which is a good thing, right? We don’t know if we will ever get some sort of national health care……??????……. BUT if we get some sort of national health care (WHICH I AM FOR) where does each of these situations put us in determining who we will help? The more smokers and the more fat people we have will cost ALL people more money, in the way of a tax that would fund health care. And… Read more »

pizzabill

Gene,

Unfortunately the comparison between the smoker and the bad-food eater just can’t be made. The smoker doesn’t realistically smoke only in private and most likely takes down others with him which increases the societal cost, not to mention the moral issues (then we could factor in the added cost of washing clothes more frequently for the non-smoker who gets smoked-up when going out, etc, etc, ad nauseum).

Regarding the cost analysis of national health care, think about this for a moment: What do you think will happen to current mandatory insurance when a national health care program goes into effect– such as Worker’s Compensation which employers are forced to pay into? Granted Worker’s Comp has a disability insurance component, but do you think an employer’s cost will go down when a national health care program covers the health care part of Worker’s Comp? My bet is they’ll be paying full ticket for redundant coverage.

As you stated, a national health care tax would cost all people more money, but it will definitely cost some people much, much more than others. With all due respect, I don’t see how your contentions jive with your claim of believing in personal choice and personal responsibility.

P.S. I couldn’t help teasing you about the food earlier. In my pizza business I’ve learned that you can’t force healthy food into people if they don’t want it. Sometime we have to throw out more of a whole-wheat dough batch than we sell. I once walked into an office with a ultra-vegetarian pizza and a guy rather indignantly said, “Broccoli on a PIZZA?! Why compromise pizza with health?” We try to offer all the fixings for a health pizza, but remember the old adage “You can lead a horse to pizza, but you can’t make him order vegetables”, or something like that.

Gene

You are right Bill – FAT people cost us 5 to 7 times more than smokers, but then again no one can still answer the question within any real merit. FAT people make health care MORE expensive than smokers. Keep on reachin’, but I would still like a real answer.

Fat people are hard to look at, take up TWO seats, increase the cost of WASHING clothes bc their clothes are bigger, FART too much, slow society down and waste peoples time bc they are slow, require larger shoes, use more toilet paper, wear out chairs in restaurants more quickly than healthy people, use more TAKE OUT boxes, require ten times the amount of doctors visits, use more water bc they shit more, since they don’t buy healthy food they use more packaging in regards to food than a healthy person, wear out floors quicker, kill bugs easier, etc….. you use bullshit excuses, and bad ones at that, so those are my bad examples for societal costs (I win on that one). Wake up – FAT people cost more money than skinny people and smoking people.

You can chose what you want to do, and you should be responsible for your actions. If I get heart disese bc I eat crappy food then let me die. Get it now Pizza King? You can have both. I like your pizza, in moderation.

Drexel Dave

Don’t forget that fat people who consume a terrible diet also don’t think as well as healthy people. Yes, their brains don’t work as well (which is why I get more than angry with school teachers and parents of kids who load them down with chips and candy for their daily diet).
Bad diet effects every part of the body, inside and out.

Gene

Yes, that is what I want NOT to happen.

pizzabill

David,

Can you put up another post? It doesn’t matter about what. We’ll take it and get completely off topic and rant and rave anyway.

Thanks.

Eat more pizza.

Gene

Why don’t we talk about Obama’s Pastor. Lord knows if it were a Republican in this situation Esrati would have made many comments on that.

Gene

Esrati wants to let FAT people off the hook – fat people raise our current premiums but he wants smokers to foot their own bill. Interesting, David, are you getting fat?

Fat people make our current health care more expensive, 5-7 times that of a smoker. But somehow we let fat people off the hook. Once again David, when you are old enough to read and comprehend, maybe you will answer my question rather than some bullshit about second hand smoke. I know second hand smoke is bad, but that is not the question.

I re-read ALL of his post and none address my question. YOU ARE A WANNABE POLITICIAN!

Gene

Yes, your prize is a pack of cigarettes.

I love the fact that like 12 people read this site. Maybe new topics with real issues will make it a bit more fun, but then again you are set in your ways. Eat a Tony’s !!!

All you do is repeat a bitch and moan regarding rich people/republicans – but you rarely bring up the Democrates problems. So continue your hypocrisy, and third places finishes.

Pam

OK—THAT’S IT! KNOCK IT OFF!!
(I’m using my “Mom Voice”, here).

Let’s settle this like the low-brow, chain-smoking, grease-eating, reality-TV-watching Daytonians that we are. Let’s take a vote: anyone else want to kick Gene off the island?

And David, for the love of God, will you please post something (anything)else? If not for Pizzabill, then for me?

Drexel Dave

Gene, why you such a hater?

Gene

Typical – you claim you are for freedom of speech but when someone actually writes something that makes sense and goes against what you believe then you want to kick people off the island. Typical Democrat, a hypocrite through and through.

Reality TV, BTW, sucks…and people who watch it are losers. I am being serious.

Flyers or Buckeyes? Who do you want? and is the REALITY TV?

Gene

I do not hate. I just want people to know that FAT people burden our current health care system more than smokers. And if we ever get some sort of National Health Care System I do not want people to rag on smokers and not fat people.

I used to smoke, I am not FAT, but not exactly skinny either. I just thought maybe people had an opinion on such a subject. I guess people just rather hate smokers than fat people.

Is most everyone who reads this blog a FAT person?

Greg Hunter

OK Gene,

Here is some more fat for the fire.

I agree about fat, even though I carry some pounds around.

Here is a nice link too.

PS. I also want to rant about the 5 year difference between men and women’s life expectancy. If that was women on the bottom of that statistic it would be a national tragedy.

Juan

You know, it’s funny. DrexelDave calls Gene a hater, but I’ve read stuff of DD’s and seen some of his videos and they’re full of hatred – towards the right. I can say the same for Greg H (hates the rich), JR Locke (hates what this country was founded on) and David (hates just about everything!) Just Kidding David!! In another one of the topics on here Greg H and JRLocke were calling Gene a bigot and a racist. However in none of what Gene wrote in that post, or any other that I can recall (I’m sure David will search and find something) has he ever insinuated anything about race. Gene preaches about personal responsibility – regardless of race. My handy little Merriam-Webster Dictionary that’s been on my desk for 25 years defines bigot as “one intolerantly devoted to his own church, party, or opinion. syn- fanatic, enthusiast, zealot” Well, if we accept that definition than just about everyone who posts to this blog (except for Pam, PizzaBill and Shannon – and, of course ME!) are bigots! It’s just that we’re devoted to different schools of thought (or churches, or parties, or opinions). Gene started the previous 30 posts to this topic by asking David a simple, VALID question comparing health costs of smokers vs. health care costs of the lard asses that most of us (myself included) are. Instead of looking at the question and trying to really get the meaning, David just gives one of his typical curt responses that he thinks will put Gene in his place and shut him up. Then he finally uses a word like “banality” just to try and show Gene who has the superior vocabulary. And after it’s all done, David never did address Gene’s question. But I’ve got to hand it to Gene for sticking in there! Gene is completely entitled to his opinion and often brings up a lot of good points. But, since his wording is typically awkward and his grammar is lacking, most of the left-leaning people that participate on this blog resort to name calling towards… Read more »

Care to be specific Juan? I have specifically pointed out that I love all, even Republicans, although it is tougher.

Greg Hunter

Juan,

I do not hate rich people; I despise the way most (generalization) of them got rich: witness current bail out of Wall Street.

Gene has been about personal responsibility, but his generalization of the West side and people was my issue. I have given Gene love in the past. (I know Gene hates when I use his name and Love in the same sentence) I am a prick, but one must embrace their strengths. I will not bury my one talent in the ground. (Biblical Reference)

*generalization = hypocrisy, see I own up to it.

Elsa’s CE for Bad Juans and the UD/OSU game. GO UD as I am hate (bigoted) against OSU.

J.R. Locke

I got hate. Juan I do hate what this country was founded upon just as much as I love the things we believe this country was founded upon. Please find me a time when I have called Gene a name, meanwhile he has called me plenty or at least that is how I took it (ie Libby)

The problem with Gene as seen in multiple posts is that he brings up “valid questions” that we obviously cannot answer. For instance the discussion about “irresponsible parents”. I made a point that our governments sex education attributes to the problem that Gene said was apparent. He ignored this debate and focused instead on generalizations about his perceived problem of low income people who make babies, smoke cigarettes and drink beer, yeah personal responsibility. How am I supposed to answer a question that doesn’t pertain to me and is about all other people? Go ask them why they don’t have personal responsibility.

Look above at his hypothetical about a smoker and eater who only do the following activity at home. What are you supposed to say to that? It is a hypothetical argument that is fruitless. Mr. Esrati answered his questions (multiple times) about anti-smoking vs anti-fat. I don’t get what the argument is even about.

When a company dumps toxic chemicals into a river and that water is used and causes cancer to a smoker, who should pay? How about a fat-ass who smokes and has AIDS lives until he is a 105 because of new expensive health care, he is a veteren should we pay for his personal responsibility? How about a mentally retarded man who smokes is that personal responsibility? Are these the hypothetical questions you guys like? I got more if you want them.

I am not tied to any philosophy but my own opinions, meanwhile Gene and Juan have brought up Liberals many time over….who is the bigot?

Drexel Dave

Gene, this is for you:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z1RQmnSJoRg

Love,

DD

Gene

Why is my argument fruitless – My mom only smokes at home and I know plenty of people who don’t go out who are fat and/or smoke. It simply is too expensive for many people to go out in public ( and I am not talking about taking a walk in the park) The “not leaving their house” point was so fellow bloggers would get off the 2nd hand smoke issue (not the issue I brought up) and would focus on the health care issue for an individual who chooses to smoke or eat too much. Any ref. to West side is also followed with and East and North side as well – all three areas are different but share a common theme – low income people. I am not racist, I am not a bigot, and I do not discriminate – I hate all people :) . I just rather preach personal responsibility than continue to give hand outs to people who continue to have kids on purpose to collect a larger welfare check. I am of the belief that it is MORE important to help a poor baby with no insurance than to help a fat ass or smoker who should know the consequences of their actions. I support some sort of National Health Care, and I support personal responsibility. But I think if you fu*k up YOUR life with YOUR bad decisions then it is not necessarily up to me or a government agency to bend over backwards to fix your problem. Treat people that need help, yes, but stop all this hand holding s*it. It gets old. If we would focus our resources in helping people who truly need help rather than simply reward people who continue to make mistakes then maybe we could help more people. And this goes with businesses as well, why the hell should a businesses or government bail anyone out of trouble? The purpose of business is to make money and the purpose of government should not be to bail people out when they are in trouble. There is a difference… Read more »

What is your position on high fructose corn syrup gene?

Gene

Interesting you asked that Question, DD. A little history for you bc Richard Marshall is my great uncle, one of the first to use this process with his buddy. High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is any of a group of corn syrups which have undergone enzymatic processing in order to increase their fructose content and are then mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to reach their final form. The typical types of HFCS are: HFCS 90 (used almost exclusively in the production of HFCS 55) which is approximately 90% fructose and 10% glucose; HFCS 55 (most commonly used in soft drinks) which is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose; and HFCS 42 (used in a variety of other foods, including baked goods) which is approximately 42% fructose and 58% glucose.[1]

The process by which HFCS is produced was first developed by my great Uncle Richard Marshall and his buddy Earl Kooi in 1957 and refined by Japanese researchers in the 1970s. HFCS was rapidly introduced in many processed foods and soft drinks in the US over the period of about 1975–1985.

In terms of sweetness, HFCS 55 is comparable to table sugar (sucrose), which is a disaccharide of fructose and glucose. This makes it useful to manufacturers as a possible substitute for sucrose in soft drinks and other processed foods. HFCS 90 is sweeter than sucrose, while HFCS 42 is not as sweet as sucrose.
Interesting, people love to drink a pile of soda, which is why my great uncle made some cash and past it on to my family. I did see some of it thank God. There you go DD.

Greg Hunter

So we should tax Gene for Fat people, because his clan was responsible. Thanks Gene!

Gene

yes, please tax me.

Drexel Dave

Gene, if you were a comic book character, you would be Ironyman.

Peace,

DD

Gene

Again, funny you should say that. In many circles I am known as Superman, and with my wrestling buddies they call me Mr. Perfect (although I do not want the same fate of one Curt Henning.)

When I was a swimmer, many moons ago, they called me Aqua-man. And on Earth Day I go by The Green Lantern. We once had a Super Heroes Party, and many of the heroes were represented. On that particular day I was Batman.

Most of you seem to fit into the Robin/Wonderwoman realm.

PEACE,

Superman/Mr. Perfect/Wannabe Richie Rich/Sugar Man/Captain Cocktail/Dr.Dobbie/The King of Consumption/God’s Gift to Woman

Seth

I would never publicly admit to being called “Aqua Man”, for he was one of the most awful of all the Super Friends.

(He talked to fish. That’s it!)

Batman, however, is acceptable.

pizzabill

Gene,

If you persist in keeping this fat/smoke/superhero thread going, I’m going to come find you and sit on you.

gene II

So David you ve voted Gene off the island once again. Does that mean as a child when you didn’t get your way you took your ball and went home? Nooooo I forgot you didn’t have any balls as a child nor do you have any now. By the way nice results at the polls during the primary………there’s more alcohol in a wine cooler then the percentage of votes you received. I say and say this sincerely better luck next time (as we ALL know there will be a next time, but do us ALL a favor retire that Ninja mask before you try this again)as realistically you cannot do any worse the next time around. I think your dog would have gotten more votes!
