The City Folk festival, the Fourth of July fireworks- both bring a lot of people downtown, but they don’t make international news or bring people from outside the area into town.
Urban nights is happy when they get 10,000 people to show up.
Maybe we should take a lesson from Auckland New Zealand:
WELLINGTON Reuters – A New Zealand court has allowed a parade of topless porn stars on motor bikes to proceed on the main street of the country’s biggest city, local media said Tuesday.
Auckland City Council had sought a court injunction to stop the “Boobs on Bikes” parade, scheduled for Wednesday, saying it breached a bylaw banning offensive public events.
But Judge Nicola Mathers said while opponents may find the parade offensive or tasteless, the fact that 80,000 people had gathered for a similar event last year meant a significant number of people did not agree with the critics, New Zealand Press Association said.
The parade on Queens St., featuring leather-clad local and international porn stars, is part of an “Erotica Expo” organized by self-styled “porn king” Steve Crow.

At one point, the idea of welcoming sex shops and strip clubs (a “combat zone”) was an idea to help rejuvinate areas that seemed past redemption.
There was also talk of a strip club near the convention center helping business.
Vegas has its brothels and its gambling- Cincinnati is straight laced, Columbus is a “college town”- maybe, Dayton should consider building the devil’s den and let it all hang out- in a designated area. Amsterdam has its red-light district and it hasn’t been wiped out by bolts of lightning from above.
The question is in whose backyard would this be? Could this be the real solution to BallPark Village- something totally unlike the Greene- the sex shopping district- just North of the ballpark and South of the River? Strip clubs, by the hour hotels, peep shows and sex shops.
Think of the tax revenue.
I would go.

At least they’re not going bottomless…so head injuries shouldn’t be a problem.
you could drop about $5k from a plane and get 200k people to fight over it. then they would spend their new found fortune at local bars.
Nothing great will ever happen in Dayton as long as the phony and oppressive “Ministerial Alliance” rules politics here.
They feed on poverty and misery. Without them (poverty and misery), the churches go out of business.
Ever notice there are about 10 times the amount of churches in Dayton than there is in Oakwood? Although that could partially be attributed to the fact that it’s a lot easier to look up when you’re on the bottom.
What is wrong with helping the poor? Is feeding them such a horrible thing?
I can think of 4 churches and 1 synagogue in Oakwood – at 9.2k people that is ONE est per 1840 people.
Dayton’s pop: 157k need 85 or so such venues to equal that of Oakwood – NOW 10 times that would be 850.

Have you driven around Dayton recently Gene? Especially the West side? There is a church on every corner almost. I would venture to say that there is easily 85 churches in Dayton.
And don’t spew no poop on me about church. I am the son of a Southern Baptist minister from drexel who has seen it all from the inside out – from the hills of Appalachia to the migrant worker towns of Northwest, Ohio, to the inner-cities.
A lot of churches and the mentality they foster CREATE and MAINTAIN poverty. It is in their best interest to do so.
And any time you want to fight, I will gladly turn your ears into broccoli at Drake’s Gym downtown, if you qualify in my heavyweight class (I’m a svelt 6-0, 205 lbs right now, and in about the best shape of my life.) If not, I can cut about 10 lbs in a day or two and maybe fight light heavyweight or even cruiserweight to accomodate.
Also, intellectually you couldn’t keep up with Bill Hicks, even seeing that he is now a dead man.
Jesus told his follwers that they would be made fun of, and to accept it. Most Christians it seems have a real hard time coming to terms with that though, and start crying like thunderstorms whenever any critique comes strolling down the boulevard. Typical hypocrites (and man, did I see some hypocrites growing up in the church).

You stats about “10 times” is just way off – that is all I was pointing out.
of course you know I am doing this per person – bc Dayton has 17 times the amount of people Oakwood has, and therefore should have roughly 17 times the churches.
Once broken down, thrown over the shoulder, down with a shot of jager, Dayton has easily 10 times the churches Oakwood does, but if it were done per person Oakwood had 1 establishment/1840 people, translated in Dayton numbers would be a total of 85 churches – but this per person is an equal amount (5 for Oakwood, 85 for Dayton) —- I am taking the ten times per person, that being 850. I hope you see my logic, if not a jager may help.
