Good News In Dayton’s goal is to communicate the good things going on in and around the Dayton area that we may not have heard about. Frustrated by a perceived lack of attention paid to all the successful companies and organizations that make up Dayton, local entrepreneur Marty Grunder asked Doug Compton, president of Park National Bank of Southwest Ohio to help him do something about this. They came up with a simple plan that would help share all the good things going on in the Miami Valley.
This website will continue to be improved and you will be able to read about our area’s successes and feel inspired. The stories can also be heard M-F from 6-9 am and 3-6 pm on whio 1290AM and 95.7 FM. Please check back often, we have several new things coming to this website. What’s gonna be your next update….that we’re in a recession?
As we say in the trade, Actions speak louder than words and yes there are great things being done in the Dayton Region, but do these two do any work in Dayton proper?
Park National Bank has no offices in Dayton and neither does Marty. This is a marketing ploy to get business for these two beneficiaries of sprawl. Lets play my Austin Road Card, because I am a one trick pony :)

Name a “leader” who called this recession? If people like Mr. Esrati would have been listened too, we would be “in less bad shape” in Dayton than the rest of the country. Dayton has a great future potential as all of the people that live in Atlanta and Phoenix decide that water and food are more important than baking in the sun; they and the businesses that left will return. If Dayton was forward looking, it would invest in Public Transportation and local food production and the rest will happen naturally. But we follow the “Hope a Dopes” from DC or the Money Changers from Wall Street. They do not know what is good for Dayton and unfortunately neither does the Leadership in this Region. Landscapers, Bankers, Realtors, Developers Commercial Lenders and Doctors?!?! run this Region – How’ is that working out for us?

I think when they say Dayton they mean the metro area, not just the city. Probably the “Good News” from the city right now is that downtown planning effort.
@Jeff- I don’t report a site until there is some content there- but, yes, a few other sites had it first.

@Get a Grip- Nan, why don’t you just sign your name? And, if you want reality- we’re in a depression, not a recession. I passed economics in college.
Everyone wants to cheer Dayton. We have a city hall full of cheerleaders. Our commissioners and mayor are all cheerleaders. What we need are salespeople. Dayton isn’t going to be bought, it has to be sold. You can’t sell Dayton to the people who live here. It has to be sold to the rest of the world. Nobody is buying Dayton because nobody at city hall is SELLING Dayton. You can have all the cheerleaders you want but if no one is selling the team they have no motivation to win!
Name one person who called this recession? Well no one called this recession but there sure were some voices in the wilderness talking about the risks of subprime lending. Peter Schiff certainly called it well before it happened. Locally the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center has been working on this issue for years.

Having no contact info is the best way for a County Commissioner to ignore incoming dialog with the community.
I did go to Nan’s blog and comment. Apparently she didn’t like what I had to say because my comments have not been approved. Of course maybe she’s going to wait another 8 months before checking in on her site.

I did want to check back in to say my comments did finally get uploaded; and Nan did respond, although she did not address any of my questions.
I love life and the ability to at least put different pieces of data together. Take Park National Bank. Without this post I would have never been able to connect Mr. Esrati’s site with one of my other favorites the Housing Bubble Blog, which has Park National Bank as one of it’s classic quotes of the day. Mr. DeLawder is the CEO of Park a holding company who seemed to have a great little Ohio based business as he served all of the outside the metro areas. Then he went to FLA Panhandle and bet theOhio Farm at absolutely the worst time :( by purchasing Vision Bank. The paper does provide a link to the FDIC information on Vision Bank and I do not know what all that crap means but if you compare the numbers from one year to the another I would say they are in trouble which means as a taxpayer, we are in trouble. Now Vision is spinning hard because they have a spin page on the damage.
Anybody with eyes could have seen the housing bubble in 2007 as it was way evident in 2005. I was down in Gulf Shores in 2007, watching in awe as Condo after Condo obliterated the Panhandle with price tags I could not fathom. Since all of you are Taxpayers, head on down to Orange Beach and pick out a condo to squat in, besides it yours and make sure to tilt a few back at the Florabama, a great high energy watering hole. I can tell you that the Good News for this site will be if Park is still in business in 2 years. Good Luck!
