Dayton isn’t the only place trying to lure the “Creative Class”

The difference between Dayton and Detroit- is that Detroit is actually doing something about it- we pay a lot of different people to talk about it.

At least we’re not going to be paying Maureen Pero anymore- but- this site for Create Detroit is worth a look.

Ok David you got me doing my homework. As a fan of Floida’s writings on the creative class I started looking for more examples. Unfortunately I stumbled onto this article that says the ‘Creative Class’ attraction concept has not panned out as well as advertised. I’m not sure I want to agree with this author but has does flaunt some interesting stats.

New rock club closes before it opens (the old elbos):

To all:
After exploring every possible avenue to keep The Roi alive, the city has wiped us out with one clean swipe. Not going into too many details, the whole situtation became a can of worms. We were willing to deal with a little BS but it kept getting deeper and deeper the closer we came to opening day. We sank a considerable amount of time, hard work and money to make this happen, but we had our hearts broken this past Saturday when the city informed us that they didn’t want another rock venue in that location, after initially giving their blessing. We were looking forward to the fun times ahead.

We plan on contacting everyone who has a scheduled show. The out-pouring of love and support makes this that much harder. We are truly sorry.

I’d like to know a bit more about what happened to The Roi. How can the city just “say no”. Surely it wasn’t a zoning or building code issue as that place must have been properly zoned to begin with. It was just a change in ownership.

I have no idea. I was to perform the second show there, and was informed that it wasn’t going foward via the message they sent to all booked artists.
