Dayton Baptist Ministers’ Conference candidates forum: Podcast

We have some amazing voices in this community- and they opened their meeting in song. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the recorder going for the opening.

There were no strict time limits. When I arrived on time, only Joe Lacey of the Dayton school Board and Charlie Shoemaker, executive director of Metroparks were there. We were invited to the table- excuses were made for a candidate who said he could be there by 1pm (Gary Leitzell- but he wasn’t named). Then the Mayor with Nan and Joey popped in about fifteen minutes late.

The Mayor was given the podium first, then Whaley and Williams. I was at the end. I didn’t do the normal stump speech if you take the time to listen. I think I made a few friends.

The questions were pointed- and the moderator, Reverend Stewart, cut off the question on the candidates’ support for the casinos- listen and you’ll hear.

The issue of the step increases/raises was asked- the answer from Commissioner Williams and “the team” was evasive.

I don’t usually make speeches like this one. It’s worth a listen.

Please note, if elected, I’ll keep providing you with insight and recordings of events and meetings that affect you. That’s my job.

Gary Leitzell

I emailed yesterday that I could not attend because I had other commitments today. They responded the same day that they understood. Those commitments were a taping at WDTN at 10:15 with Sharon Howard and Ms. McLin. I didn’t get out of  there until 11:30. I had to pick my daughter up from a friends house and in the early afternoon I had to take her for the state mandated first grade diagnostic testing and wasn’t finished until 3 PM. After that we were campaigning between 6 and 7:30 PM.
I can’t be everywhere. Wish you wouldn’t blast facebook that I was a no-show without consulting me first. If the ministers represented anything else about my absence then they were wrong to do so.

Will Brooks

Ya, I gotta agree with Gary. Based on what you wrote on FB, I was about to goto Gary’s wall and ask him wtf happened…lol. I’m sure you meant no harm in posting it.

Will Brooks

Sorry, I can’t take listening to Rhine Rolodex through the same old tired, broken record topics. Actually, the issues are very relevant – her “solutions” kill me. Always the same. Is there anyway to talk you into posting just your speech?….or maybe a player that I can skip forward?

Will Brooks

Thanks David!

Will Brooks

David, after listening to your speech and spending a lot of time reading your site I encourage you to keep on doing what you are doing. Whether or not you are elected, your activism raises awareness like turning on the light in a dark room. I will listen to the whole event tomorrow. Thanks again.

David Lauri

keep on doing what you are doing

Will’s right, David E.  Being an elected official is one way to change one’s community, obviously, but being an effective journalist works too. And an advantage of being a journalist is that you don’t have to campaign.  Dig stuff up, write articles, hold politicians accountable.

Will Brooks

Well, we should talk sometime soon. If you can’t monetize it perhaps having help would encourage you. You have my email, lemme know.

Will Brooks

That’s significant. They should’ve endorsed you or no one, or at least not Nan for God sakes.

Jeff

I’ll bet McLins support of that gay rights ordnance killed the ministers endorsement of her.
