Chinese food with class

Last night a friend decided to take me out to dinner to thank me for some good advice.

As always, I wanted to go to an independent restaurant. My first pick didn’t answer the phone, so we headed up North to Mr. Lees Fine Asian dining. It’s in the old “Cooker” on Little York, away from the strip of chains on the West side of 75.

Pulling up, it was obvious they had done a major overhaul, but as you walk through the double doors- into the foyer, you will be absolutely awestruck- what was once a cluttered, cut-up, dark interior, is now wide open- with undulating benches on the perimeter, halogen lights throughout and a glass waterfall. I almost felt underdressed in jeans and a turtleneck (until I saw the guy with the Earnhardt hat a few tables over).

The menu is refined- unlike most Asian places that list 1000 menu items, acknowledging that Americans only order certain things, it has perhaps 80 choices including everything. The elegant atmosphere was complemented nicely by classical music- and the formally dressed staff.

One meal isn’t enough to judge a restaurant, but, based on our food last night- I’d be happy to go back.

The website is in serious need of help (including editing)- so here’s the link and the important data (they might want to consider my websitetology [1] seminar):

I just put that on my list of places to hit. I’m happy to hear it’s not a let down. A lot of places could really be something if they’d just taken the extra step. If anyone’s ever in Cincinnati try Wild Ginger. They took the extra step.

I totally agree Mr. Lee’s is a very nice place to have asian cooking in an elegant environment at a very reasonable price. We just went there on 3/17/07 and plan to go back taking many different friends each time.

Thanks for the great review! I work there as a hostess and love the food also. I’ve worked there since about a month before we opened and enjoy my job very much. If you need any advice on what to order, just ask! I’ve had everything on the menu.

Have you been there lately? It seems it is never busy enough there, it’s a shame, as the food can be good there.

We went to Mr. Lee’s for the first time in July for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We were very impressed by the elegant, modern decor and completely blown away by the outstanding service we were given. Peter, the manager that evening, was attentive and polite; knowing when to stop by and offer help with the menu. Our waitress was professional, articulate, and very knowledgeable. Peter offered to take a pic of our special night; and capped off the outstanding dinner with a complimentary dessert that was simply decadant. The sushi platter was not only beautiful; it was nearly a meal in itself! We took Peter’s suggestion on our dinner entree and were not disappointed in both the amount of food offered, but the quality as well.
Tom and I both work in retail and come into close personal contact with many customers whom have heard about our experience at Mr. Lee’s. We are planning to revisit Mr. Lee’s when our extended family comes to Dayton this fall.
Thank you also to the kitchen manager who brought the pickled hot peppers, an unexpected delicacy that Tom and I enjoyed very much!!
