Bombs bursting in air- why I hate the 4th of July

Big Daddy Fireworks sign [1]

Brent Moore [1] via Compfight [2]

I live in little Afghanistan.

Starting a few days ago- and for the next week- I’ll have to listen to fools setting off fireworks, shooting guns, and generally being jerks. The fact that fireworks are sold around here when the closest state where they are legal is Missouri [3] is still a mystery.

The police do nothing. My dogs are miserable. Unfortunately, Darwin isn’t solving the problem- because for the last 26 years- we continue to have the same wild west show. Yet, if I drive over to Oakwood, all is peaceful and quiet.

Would someone remind me why we pay taxes in Dayton? Why are laws so easy to ignore here?

So, Ice Bandit, are you going to take my challenge and come tomorrow morning to Feeding Friends? Care to actually meet some of the people you’ve been demonizing here from behind a pseudonym, the people who you think “should endure a certain amount of suffering” (especially the kids who need food)? Or are you afraid to do so?

I placed our monthly order with Foodbank Dayton yesterday.  We’ve got cereal and mac & cheese and infant formula and peanut butter and vegetable oil and crackers and bread and bagels and lots of fresh produce including potatoes and yellow squash and cucumbers and zucchini and mustard greens.

Folks who meet the JFS income guidelines (see link in first paragraph above) are welcome to come between 7:30 and 9:00.  Folks who just want to help out (carrying bags, breaking down tables, etc.) are welcome to come between 7:00 and 9:00.  Don’t let the possibility of Ice Bandit’s coming scare you — I doubt he’s brave enough to actually come and meet some of the folks who need food, and even if he does, his bark can’t possibly be as bad as it is on here.

I saw a photo on Facebook this morning that made me think of you, Ice Bandit. The part that made me think of you, Ice, said this:

Hungry Children From Low-Income Families — Oh, I’m sorry you’re hungry. Maybe your parents should have thought about that before having a child they couldn’t afford.

That sounds rather similar to your comment that “Perhaps, bobby, those who forgo education, suck on crack pipes or have their sixth child before their 20th birthday should endure a certain amount of suffering.” Perhaps those who have six children they cannot afford to feed should suffer, but how do you propose to make them suffer without making their children, who did not ask to be born, suffer also?

Will I see you next month, Ice, at my church’s food pantry?  Third Saturday of every month.  Come meet some of the people you think should suffer.

Are there the same type of “anti-Democrat” groups on FB like these anti-Republican ones ? There are 2-3 or so FB friends of mine who share these anti-Republican posts, pictures, etc, but I’ve never seen the opposite. I guess the Republican or Independent friends don’t feel the need to spread the negativity…

David Lauri

Hall, see this article, “Many Anti-Obama Facebook Groups Attack President’s Race, Not Politics,” for some links to the groups you seem to have missed and for some examples of fun pictures you seem to have missed, and then come back and tell me how Republicans stay away from negativity.

Dan

Yeah Hall there’s tons of anti-liberal ones out there. Both the anti-liberal and anti-conservative Facebook groups are dumb as hell and oversimplify everything.

Hall

No, David, I’m not interested in the least. The opinions of bigots, racists, hardcore partisan sheep, etc, etc aren’t worth my time. They’re by all means entitled to their opinions — I’m not that ignorant — but I don’t want to hear them.

I never said “Republicans stay from the negativity” either, I said my Republican/Independent friends do.

Hall

Just to be clear, I’m not doubting that there are anti-Democrat groups on FB. I simply DO NOT GO LOOKING FOR THEM. Nor do I look for the anti-Republican ones. As I said, there are a few FB friends of mine who like to “share” the posts or pictures that they see there.
