Bad investments by government

I own my business, or at least the bank does. Typically, this is how small business works, you want to start a business, you go get a loan (typically with your home as the security) and you get started.

But, if you are a C-level exec, who has been making millions for years, and want to start a business, you go ask other people to give you money, without you taking on a majority of the risk. You promise to employee people, and pay yourself well- only if they supply 80% of your capital. Sounds like a great deal- if you are the CEO.

Why our tax dollars are being used to make the rich richer is a mystery to me.

I’m sure Springfield could have used half a million to provide services to all of its residents instead of making sure a CEO got a free ride [see comment below] – read this from today’s DDN:

Qbase’s growth teaches survival [1]
Embrace help from private foundations and government

The Turner Foundation of Springfield gave a fledgling Qbase $4 million, Pardue said. Springfield city government came through with $500,000. And Greene County was an early supporter with $60,000. This assistance and more helped fuel growth, creating a company where employees put up only 20 percent of the capital, yet own 80 percent of the business, Pardue said.

Our tax dollars are to invest in infrastructure, safety, and public services. Corporate welfare must stop- across the board, especially if we want to see honesty returned to government. Want to see what happens when government gives tax dollars to private companies- click on the continuation:

note, the FEC database has entries for Qbase and Q-base, and there may be even more ways to spell it.

It looks like a good way for your tax dollars to flow right back to the politicians campaigns to me. What’s it look like to you?

This is why my campaign isn’t the same as my competition, and why if elected, I will push hard to end both corporate welfare and private funding of political campaigns.

The 2+ billion we spend on campaigns now, is costing us much more in obligations to donors than it’s helping. For those still claiming it’s a freedom of speech issue, you don’t know what free speech is, or you’d be supporting my campaign.

BuyerBeware

I hear that Pardue is trying to sell all or a portion of qbase to a company rumored to be in the DC area called “Diamondback”.  I don’t know if this is true or not but I sure hope the company has done its research before entering into a business agreement with Pardue otherwise they might just get bit.

Springfield Resident

Quick comment about Qbase patting themselves on the back for 100% participation in United Way.  Well, I work for an organization in Springfield and our CEO is in the golf / political scheme here and we are shamed and virtually extorted to donate to the United Way so he can look good. It must me a CEO contest to force your employees to donate to your causes and support their politicians.  We employees have little raises in years and still are forced to donate or face comments / shame; is that not extortion?

FormerIntern

Extortion indeed. That was Bill Pardue through and through. Even as an intern I can remember sitting in a conference room with a rep from HR as they said “…and finally here’s a form to donate to United Way if you like. We DO have 100% employee donorship.”
…cricket, cricket…
“Well, I don’t kno—”
“It can be a one time cash donation.”
Aaand I was suckered.

Gene

Yeah, kinda stinks to hand over your hard earned money to some organization that will just shit it away. Kinda like taxes and our government. Being forced to give money is a bad thing.
