Edgar Keiter Jr entered the Montgomery County Jail May 1, 2024, he left it yesterday dead of an overdose.
This was his second OD in the jail.
No one will weep for the man who dismembered his father and left him in a Kettering apartment with a knife in through his heart. His fathers legs were found on a Trotwood driveway wrapped in a tarp. Other parts in a storage locker. Nothing says “I love you to pieces” like killing the person who gave birth to you and shared your name, like dismemberment.
Being in jail doesn’t mean you are guilty, that’s for the courts to decide, and for Keiter the court was still working through discovery, with the last filing on 10/22/25. His bond was high and he was in a place where he shouldn’t have been able to get high, but this is the Montgomery County Jail which is more Thunderdome than a holding home. Jailers are not supposed to be judges, juries or most importantly, executioners.
The list of senseless deaths in this jail keeps growing. This jail should be more notorious than Rikers Island or even the long closed Alcatraz, need an example, see yesterday’s post, Jailers Gone Wild: The Khalid Mustafa beating. [1] It's become an ATM for victims families and civil rights lawyers. Yet, no one on the County Commission has called for the Sheriff's ouster, or the prosecutor to prosecute. There's the Montgomery County Jail Coalition, who may as well be singing Kumbaya and lighting candles over and over. This isn't the kind of story that esrati.com/ should have to keep writing either.
How long will it take the mainstream media to catch on to the beating of Mustafa is anyone’s guess. Keiter’s death will only amount to side note.
But, what will it take to get serious about running this jail in a way that people don’t die, get maimed, the county sued, wash rinse and repeat?
UPDATE
16:02 12 Nov 2025. A reader informed me that there was a piece of the story that’s not been reported about Edgar Jr. It seems Sr. was a registered tier 3 sex offender (the highest level, Tier III : registration duties last a lifetime for adults and for juveniles; in-person verification is required every 90 days) of a minor under 13.
Here’s a screen shot of the old listing- and the case from the court of appeals.
As usual, there’s more to the story.

Was this “Daddy Dearests” revenge? Or an Epstein like move to keep the family secrets away from the public? Or just incompetent jailers?
Per the Dayton Daily News today:
“An inmate at the Montgomery County Jail has died after a medical emergency was reported Tuesday evening. There were no obvious signs of drug use or foul play, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Around 6:50 p.m., an inmate reported another inmate was having a medical emergency. Correctional and medical staff responded and began CPR. The Dayton Fire Department was called to respond … Keiter was facing 32 charges in the death and dismemberment of his father, 75-year-old Edgar Keiter Sr…”

I imagine we will learn more in the coming days about this new jail death of an obviously mentally ill inmate and the criminal cases involving him, his son, and the son’s girlfriend.
I want to clarify something I said earlier. I don’t believe Keiter, Jr. was found to be insane. He was in jail during his criminal prosecution.
However, Edgar Keiter, Jr. was obviously not right in the head to have acted in the way he did. It’s clear the killing and dismemberment of his own father was premeditated, apparently for financial gain.
Keiter, Jr.’s death has been reported as a medical emergency so far, but the actual cause of his jail death will be forthcoming soon.
