7 Months later, RTA reverses: will allow bus ads

Back in January, I told you that RTA [1] was going to halt advertising on the buses. http://esrati.com/?p=187 [2]

Today at lunch, I ran into RTA board Chairman Bryan Bucklew who informed me that RTA has reversed the decision and will now begin accepting bus ads again.

The directive from the board to RTA Director Donaghy  was to work out the details on who will sell the ads, possibly bidding it out to a third party.

There will not be full wraps, but the exterior panel ads will return.

Mark one up for Esrati vs the world.

That’s great, just as long as we don’t have to see “The Tiger” again.

It’s one thing to advertise a legitimate product or service and promote local businesses, but advertising something that profits from legalized extortion on the side of city bus smacks of a local economy that’s on its’ last legs.

Unfortunately, were they do discriminate on advertising like that, the most likely to be extorted next would be the RTA.

I got a kick out of those big Chipolte burrito busses.

I agree with Jeffrey. The giant rolling burritos were awesome. I hate to see the full-wraps go, even if they are “The Tiger” or whatever else…. Heaven forbid Dayton have some “cool” looking busses around that gave people a little laugh (not to mention probably effectively making some think “damn I’m hungry”).
